Overview

 

Background.

My team developed an open-sourced marketplace, where businesses can assemble their end-to-end process on an accessible and modular canvas, before sharing this experience with their consumers. That way the customers become the inventors and control the final product before purchasing.

Problem.

BMW production line has many manual assembly tasks which are characterized by high receptions, high load, and extreme joint angles, these strains cause work-related upper limb disorder of the musculoskeletal system.

Outcome.

We used the Solution Builder platform for creating a workflow for individually adjusting the thumb support based on 3D scan input. In this way, the worker can perform his ergonomically and prevent any work-related injuries.

Opportunity


 

Assembly workers in the automotive industry are inserting up to 2500 plugs per shift.

We wanted to use our platform to develop a workflow for the workers to 3D print their own unique thumb support and prevent any injury in the future.

 
 

Mapping the Workflow


 

We designed a smooth end-to-end workflow for creating a product ready for manufacturing.

The workflow included scanning the thumb, importing all data measurements into our platform to create a custom support 3D modal, nesting all modals, and sending it for 3D printing.
